Before Rider and Miley there was Japhy (aka. Little Man) .

Before Rider and Miley we had our first Boston name Japhy. He's what made us fall in love with the breed. Due to some unfortunate circumstances the little guy was extremely sick and suffered from cluster seizures that were we could not fix holistically without medication. Japhy would have these seizures that would last one to two days and twelve to twenty plus mini-seizures a day. It was the most heartbreaking thing to watch.

We read and researched everywhere trying to do everything to make his life easier. We came across Natural Balance-Sweet and Potato version; it was highly talked about for dogs with Japhy's condition. It's a good brand of dog food and Japhy loved it.

Japhy 2007-2009

Note: Japhy came from a very bad breeder in Missouri. (Of course none of us knew that from the beginning) We were very blessed to have had him because he gave us a lot of joy and happiness. I did some research on the breeder during all his un-explainable seizures. We took little man to every vet you can imagine. We even took him to the University of Florida, where they have a excellent Veterinarian School that is very world renowned for their care and specialists for animals. They even did a spinal tap to see if he had meningitis in his spine. The final conclusion was inconclusive with the spinal tap.

We think a big part of Japhy's medical issues, as I discovered the Breeder was over breeding her dogs, so there was a lot of inbreeding going on. It probably was a major factor in his seziues because it was never a clear diagnosis what caused it.---so just bad genetics

We miss him very dearly be was blessed to have had him in our live. Here was a beautiful poem I found to express our loss for Japhy.

MAY I GO

Dedicated to everyone who has ever had
to put down a beloved dog.
by Susan A. Jackson

May I go now?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain filled days
and endless lonely nights?

I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?

I didn't want to go at first,
I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and loving light.

I want to go. I really do.
It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day.

To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid,
because I see your tears.

I'll not be far, I promise that,
and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you
wherever you may go.

Thank you so for loving me.
You know I love you, too.
That's why it's hard to say goodbye
and end this life with you.

So hold me now just one more time
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you'll let me go today

New Food for the Pups: Wellness Super5Mix

We are switching Rider and Miley's food to Wellness a holistic brand of dog food. When I'm shopping for food at the supermarket, I get  pretty leery if I can't understand the ingredients in my food.

When you look at the back of this bag of dog food. You  have ingredients that are simple and healthy. A lot of regular dog foods have fillers and bad ingredients, so this time I made sure our pups are getting the best we can get.

Yes, unfortunately holistic or organic dog foods are expensive but in our household we eat pretty healthy, so the way we eat at home I think Rider and Miley deserves the same. We're going to try the Wellness Super5Mix Whitefish and Sweet Potato Dry Dog food. I hope our little guy will do well on this.

Here are my reasons why I found this brand to test first on the pups:

1) They are a holistic brand of dog food.
2) No fillers or artificial fillers are used.
3) They use human-grade ingredient so they go above the FDA and AAFCO standards.
4) Most importantly, they don't carry anything that is potentially allergenic, of second-grade quality, or lack any nutritional benefits.

I let you know in a few weeks how Rider is doing on this brand.

Remedy-Rider Upset Tummy

This morning our little man had another upset belly so we used the following remedy. It really helps too.

1/2 Cup of Cooked Rice.
1 tablespoon of Peanut Butter.

I swear it works every time and our little man feels better in no time!

Happy To Report

I am happy to report that Rider is feeling 100% better. We are trying different types of dog food and we'll report back to which was the best suited one for our little man.

Poor Baby

Our poor little Rider is having the worst night tonight! His little tummy is all upset. I wish we could make him feel better. Our little man peed on the floor twice. Which isn't really like him. I know Boston's have really sensitive stomachs  so I'm going to start looking for  a new brand of dog food for the little guy. I will keep you updated to which brand he's going to trying.

Sorry we've been away. An update. (Hurrican Irene)

We've been pretty busy at home but we're coming back! Just some updates on Miley she has recently gained a little weight so she's going on diet so were going to try these Blue Dog Bakery Natural Low Fat Dog Treats, Peanut Butter & Molasses Flavor Doggie Paws, 10-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) because Miley loves her treats. Rider on the other hand has trimmed down and looks pretty fit. Here's a recent picture of our little Miley. Happy as can be! Love that little face. Mom and Dad have been very busy and working their tails off so we haven’t been posting lately. In our household we're a pretty active family. We love to go jet skiing, swimming, Miley love to run with her mom, Rider loves riding the skateboard, and it just keeps going. I'll say these pups have a pretty active lifestyle :)

On a side note, let’s keep the folks that have been affected by hurricane Irene in your prayers and hope everyone keeps their spirit up. It really makes me believe that people do care and love their neighbors. By donating and offering help to their neighbor by giving a hand. We just saw on the news, a neighbor that owns a construction company decided to donate his equipment to help pump water out of someone’s flooded basement. Also use the other equipment to help build temporary damns to protect houses from flooding. Here is a link to the Red Cross and their partners that are helping the victims of Irene. http://www.redcross.org/en/givehere/  If you can help, please do.
